The best books of 2014

Author Tom Perrotta (Credit: Larry D. Moore CC BY-SA 3.0)

Every year I do a "best books" column for my paper, polling writers and readers. I usually have at least one name readers of this blog will recognize, and this year it's John Higgs. I also got contributions from some other folks whose names you might know, including U.S. author Tom Perrotta, long one of my favorite writers.

The best books of 2014, Sandusky Register.

As usual, nobody can agree on what the "best" books of the year are. Though nobody asked me to I'll name my three, two of which were mentioned by Larry Smith:
Distant Neighbors and The Collected Poems of Denise Levertov, plus Nobody Home: Writing, Buddhism and Living in Places,, in which Julia Martin, a South African literary scholar interviews and exchanges letters with poet and activist Gary Snyder over a period of twenty years. Yes, I'm a Gary Snyder fan.

Of course, you were "asked," in the sense that everyone is welcome to leave their own suggestions here. Thanks for posting again.
