I had no idea that writer Andrei Codrescu has a Substack, much less that he is a Robert Anton Wilson fan. But he has a short piece up that is apparently a blurb or review for the upcoming collection of RAW political essays that Hilaritas Press has in the works. (I don't have any really inside information on this, but from what I can tell, the book is likely to be out sooner than later.)
I like Codrescu (you may be old enough to remember him on NPR, but also I have a weakness for Surrealist poets) and I'll be checking out his Substack. You should read his whole piece (it's not very long) but here is part of it:
"Few people remember that in the last three decades of the 20th Century, 'Futurist' was a well-paying gig. Top futurist writers like Buckminster Fuller, Marshall MacLuhan and Robert Anton Wilson commanded large fees for speaking at conferences and corporate events. Situated somewhere between fortune-tellers and philosophers, these prognosticators included tech in their visions. The computer was the new deck of Tarot cards. The future that they foresaw was, of course, accurate. We are living in it. For my money, Robert Anton Wilson was the most charismatic of them all. He had a sense of humor and a grasp of absurdity that transcended even the most profound, but sadly serious, visions of the others."
Hat tip: Michael Johnson on Substack (in the "Activity" section).
