Robert Anton Wilson's first Cosmic Trigger book had an uncanny ability to describe strange events, and then offer different explanations for what might be causing them.
znore at Groupname for Grapejuice can do that, too. In fact, his new post, Retangling the Spaghetti Theory of Conspiracy 2, refers to Cosmic Trigger and has some mind-blowing theories about conspiracies. Just as znore has me convinced "Yeah, he might have something here," he repudiates the theory and goes on to the next one. Highly recommended.
You might consider reading part one first (which I also blogged.)

Philip K. Dick spent the last years of his life doing something similar, with his "Valis trilogy" and working on his Exegesis.
