Beethoven/Kerman reading group, Coda

I think Oz wrote the coda to this group. Please check it out at his blog. (Tom wrote about it last Friday.) I hope you had a wonderful Beethoven’s birthday yesterday. Thank you for participating in this group and allowing me to share one of my favorite books with you.

Richard Rasa has shared that Bob Wilson did not want to get channeled. I do not have strong beliefs about survival after death, and I have not had any strong feelings of communication from Bob since his death. I have wondered how he would have responded to stuff in our world over the past 11 plus years: the Obama presidency, the lost Orson Welles film, etc. I know he loved Beethoven immensely, and I suspect this reading group would have pleased him.

"I suspect this reading group would have pleased him". As would having his major books reprinted with better graphics and intros to them and whole new generation appreciating his work.

Ha, for the first time in months I have no Beethoven cd's in my car. I have Jack DeJohnette's "Made in Chicago" playing right now. I will probably return to the Big B before too long.

Much thanks to Tom and Eric for hosting and presenting this reading group. This a book I wouldn't have thought to read. I enjoyed it more than expected. Kerman was obviously very moved and taken with Beethoven. His passion for the music seems palpable and he does a superb job of putting his passion into words. One of the most articulate books on music I've ever read. This group was also an introduction to Beethoven's string quartets, for me. I look forward to getting to know them much better in the future.

I had the fortune to mix DeJonette one time. He was filling in for Tony Williams who, very sadly, had unexpecetdly recently died. DeJonette blew me away at the rehearsal the day before the show.

Thank you for your great comments everyone. Oz, I heard Jack DeJohnette play one song once with Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, and Dave Holland. They played outside in Scottsdale, AZ, and it started to rain so they cancelled the show.

Eric,

What a great lineup for a jazz band. I am particularly a fan of Dave Holland and own many of his albums. He FINALLY came to Cleveland a few years ago, and I got to see him.

I had a jazz concert experience very similar to yours. My wife and I went to an outdoor jazz festival in Toledo years ago, specifically to see my favorite jazz singer, Karrin Allyson. She did one song and it started to rain, so they stopped. When the rain ended, they went on to the next act, a bigger name. A big disappointment, but I did get to say hello to her and shake her hand.
