A Shea and Wilson anecdote

Robert Anton Wilson, left, and Robert Shea.

An anecdote from Scott Apel, after I mentioned my Shea book to him: "How great you compiled a Shea tribute! I met him once, at the 12-hour Seattle performance of Ken Campbell's Illuminatus play. He was tall and thin with a high voice and RAW was short and round with his deep Brooklyn accent. Standing together, they reminded me of Mutt & Jeff, if it isn't heretical to say that. "

More soon, by and about Mr. Apel.

I once read about an interesting perceptual trick involving height: Basically we over or under estimate the perceived height of individuals based on our opinion of them. I.E. Esteemed people are perceived as taller than they really are.

(I'm always astonished at how much taller I am than the women in my life when looking at photos. It does not seem that way in person!)

When I first met RAW he was in his wheelchair, so I didn't get a good sense of his height, but later on in the evening I helped him out of his chair into a standing position, and he seemed to loom over me like a giant! I was pretty stoned, but the visual scene played out almost like a cinematic dolly zoom transformation, where he looked 7ft tall!

I'm kinda short, 5'9" with shoes on, so it wouldn't take that much for him to look tall compared to me, but here he is described as "short" himself, so IDK!
