Covers for reprints of Shea novels

Bobby Campbell has released photos of the two covers he has done for the planned reprintings of Robert Shea's first two solo novels, the Shike novels. Here they are:

I asked Bobby when the books will become available. "New print editions should be available very soon, it got sent to the printers last month," he replied.

The official Robert Shea site is here.

Thanks guys!

I really like how the back covers turned out as well. I lifted most of the text from a previous edition, and it is pretty glorious, for example:

"EXOTIC ADVENTURE... SAVAGE PASSION...
A SAGA OF IMPERIAL JAPAN"

I love that kinda stuff.

Though this also reveals the $24.95 sticker price, which I feel conflicted about. I always go for the philosophy of charge less money, reach more people, sell more in the long run. Though on the other hand, I've seen the sales numbers on even more famous books, and it ain't pretty, so if niche books are to remain in print maybe this is just how the cookie crumbles.

Not that it's up to me either way!

Well, sadly, that pricing will keep these off my bookshelf for quite a while. I often wonder how universal the "Gillette model" can be. 99 cent e-books seem pretty popular. I know loads of people that have an "under 9.99" or "under "5.99" philosophy with their Kindle's and Nooks.

I find the art amazing, though, Bobby, as per usual. :-)

The Kindle Shikes are $6.99 and used copies are available cheap, so I would guess all segments of the market are served.

I'll be reading the Kindles but I do appreciate seeing Bobby's covers here. Hopefully they'll show up well on my Kindle Fire.
I'm just now getting around to reading the Historical Illuminatus series. I've just started The Widow's Son and every once in awhile I'll put the book down and just stare at the cover. Great job, Bobby!

Good point, Tom!

Thanks very much, fyreflye!

The Widow's Son is one of my favorite books ever, and I love that I get to be a small part of that reading experience. Enjoy!
