What to do about a reading group?

Augustus Burnham Shute illustration from an early edition of Moby Dick

A couple of days ago, I floated the idea of a new reading group: "What would make sense? Schroedinger's Cat? Cosmic Trigger 2? Moby Dick, maybe?"

So far, I've gotten feedback in the comments from Eric Wagner (who wants to do Moby Dick), an anonymous commenter (who voted for Schroedinger's Cat) and from Spookah, who suggested a number of other books and who pointed out that if we did the SC trilogy we would have to decide which version. I like the longer version but it seems to me we'd have to do the one-volume omnibus, as that's the edition that is generally available.

I am still busy with the Robert Shea anthology and don't really need another project, but it's been awhile since we did a reading group; would anyone else be willing to help write blog posts? And does anyone else want to weigh in?

I liked doing a post every three weeks for the Prometheus Rising group. I would gladly do something like that again. I hope someone republishes the original versions of the Schroedinger's Cat books (Hilaritas?). I think they contain some of Bob Wilson's best writing.

Both Schrödinger's Cat (why are people changing the spelling of it?) and Moby Dick would make great subjects for a reading group. I favor the whale slightly over the cat. I could commit to contributing one post a month for the group.

I tend to spell it Schoedinger in English using oe for the o umlaut. Yeah Moby Dick!

I know this one from German class in high school! "oe" is an acceptable substitute for an "ö"

If these are the two main contenders, I would happily join a reading group for either. I hang around these parts to satisfy my interest in RAW, but without the incentive of such a group, my unread copy of Moby Dick would probably just keep on gathering dust for a few more years.

In the universe next door, it's spelled Schroedinger.

I hadn't heard of the Americanized spelling of Schrödinger. In a group proofing a Hilaritas title, Schrödinger always changed to appear as Erwin spelled it. I couldn't find any use of the American spelling of his name in a google search. I wonder if Melville's title originally read Moby Richard?

Moby Dick and Schoedinger's seem like two powerful magickal texts either of which might prove of use in these volatile times.

If y'all would like this, we could do Moby Dick here- I imagine it will be a lengthier book group. On Jechidah we can do a reading group for The Sex Magicians here in a month or so tandemly. (It's a pretty light-while-hot-and-heavy read. It won't do much to distract from Dick.) I need to make my Bumper Book "preview" post and then I can make an announcement if that sounds good.

I really like this idea, Rarebit Fiend !

Much as I love Moby Dick, it might work even better to do Schroedinger's Cat and The Sex Magicians at the same time since some of the scenes Bob cut from the three volume Schroedinger's Cat first appeared in The Sex Magicians.
